For small businesses, the practical story is not just that OpenAI updated ChatGPT Business. It is that workspace admins can now control Word access from the ChatGPT admin console, and they can inspect model access for a named member through a new Model Test feature. What ChatGPT Business admins can control now
According to OpenAI’s release notes, workspace admins can turn Word access on or off in the ChatGPT admin console. Microsoft 365 admins must also allow the ChatGPT add-in for Word access to work. OpenAI says Word access will be enabled by default starting Oct. 1, 2026, which makes this a near-term setup issue for businesses that care about where employees can use connected productivity tools.
The same release notes add Model Test in the Admin Console. Admins can inspect which models a named member can access and which settings contribute to that access. OpenAI says the test is informational only: it does not grant access, change permissions or usage limits, or override seat type or workspace plan.

The agency said it awarded more than $8 million in grants to 50 organizations through the Federal and State Technology Partnership Program. Grant recipients are eligible for awards of up to $180,000 each.
FAST awardees provide training, mentoring, and technical assistance to help small businesses compete for research and development funding through America’s Seed Fund, which includes SBIR and STTR. The SBA says the program now reaches across 49 states and Puerto Rico, with 43 awardees renewed and seven new entities added.
