Small e-commerce brands can use new Merchant Center insights and feed upgrades to improve discovery, conversion, and ad efficiency this holiday season.

What small sellers can use right now

Google’s latest holiday-shopping update is most useful for merchants who need more than generic traffic. The company says AI performance insights in Merchant Center are now generally available to businesses in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the U.S., giving retailers a way to see how shoppers discover their brand across AI Mode, AI Overviews, and the Gemini app. Google says the report includes share-of-voice, funnel-stage insights, product-term insights, and product-attribute completeness gaps.

For small e-commerce brands, that matters because it turns AI shopping into something measurable. If a product is being seen but not clicked, the issue may be positioning. If it is not appearing for the terms shoppers use, the issue may be feed structure or attribute completeness. Google’s own documentation says the feature benchmarks visibility against similar brands and breaks performance into discovery, evaluation, and purchase stages, which makes it useful for diagnosing whether the problem is traffic, conversion, or data quality.

Why feed cleanup is now a revenue tactic

Google says merchants adopting core Merchant Center feed best practices see a 5% average conversion lift the following month. That is not a guarantee, but it is a strong enough signal for holiday sellers to treat feed maintenance as a sales task, not a housekeeping task. The holiday update specifically points merchants toward video link attributes, conversational attributes, and loyalty data as ways to improve discovery and member pricing visibility.

For a small brand, the practical move is to check whether product titles, descriptions, and attributes match the way customers actually ask questions. Google says conversational attributes can add richer context to listings, and its testing with lululemon found those attributes were incorporated 50% of the time in relevant product recommendations in AI Mode. The business value is straightforward: better product data can help shoppers find the right item faster, which can reduce wasted clicks and improve conversion efficiency during the holiday rush.

Mid-funnel help for products that need explanation

Google is also inviting U.S. retailers into the beta for Business Agent in YouTube ads. According to Google, the agent sits directly within YouTube ads and lets viewers ask product questions without leaving the video. The company says it is grounded in the advertiser’s existing product catalog and website data.

That creates a useful option for small brands selling products that need more explanation before purchase. Apparel, accessories, home goods, and other comparison-heavy categories often lose buyers when a video ad creates interest but not enough confidence. If a shopper can ask about sizing, compatibility, shipping, or returns inside the ad experience, the brand may recover demand that would otherwise stall before the site visit. This is especially relevant for merchants that already invest in video creative but need a better path from interest to purchase.

Checkout friction and loyalty data can protect margin

Google also says Merchant Center’s Universal Commerce Protocol integration hub now supports additional capabilities such as cart transfer to a merchant site and enhanced checkout-flow testing, with the rollout starting in the U.S. and Australia and Canada to follow early next year. Google says UCP already enables direct checkout for hundreds of thousands of brands and retailers across Google.

For smaller sellers, the opportunity is not just convenience. It is reducing the number of steps between discovery and payment, which can matter when holiday shoppers are moving quickly. The same update says loyalty data can highlight member perks and pricing across Google, including tailored results for signed-in members. Google says merchants can also showcase perks like free shipping, drive multiple visits from signed-in members, and steer bids toward higher-value shoppers. That makes loyalty data more than a retention tool; it becomes a way to surface margin-friendly offers to the customers most likely to buy again.

The main risk in all of this is weak data. These AI surfaces will not fix stale pricing, missing shipping details, or incomplete attributes. They can amplify what is already in the feed. For small e-commerce brands preparing for holiday demand, the smartest use of this update is to audit Merchant Center now, tighten product data, add supported enrichment fields, and test whether AI performance insights reveal a clear path to better discovery and conversion.
