Educator Turned Entrepreneur Named Finalist in 10th Annual Stevie® Awards for Women in Business San Diego, CA, October 14, 2013 –(PR.com)– Julie Seal, founder and President of Mirus Promotions, was named a finalist in the Female Entrepreneur of the Year – Business Services–10 or Less Employees category in the 10th annual Stevie® Awards for Women in Business. She will ultimately be a Gold, Silver or Bronze Stevie Award winner.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives, entrepreneurs, employees and the companies they run – worldwide. The Stevie Awards have been hailed as the world’s premier business awards. More than 1,200 entries were submitted this year for consideration in more than 90 categories.

Gold, Silver and Bronze Stevie Award winners will be announced during a gala event at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on Friday, November 8. Nominated women executives and entrepreneurs from the U.S. and several other countries are expected to attend.

Seal “reinvented” herself after losing her job as an elementary school teacher due to budget cuts. Seeing a need for brand representatives who are not just attractive, but also approachable, knowledgeable and skilled in sales, she started Mirus Promotions in 2009 to provide exceptional support for clients’ marketing promotions, choosing the Latin word for extraordinary as its name.

From its San Diego headquarters, Seal’s company has grown more than 250 percent while serving clients throughout California as well as in Arizona and Nevada. Over the past year, she expanded operations into Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Texas and Washington, providing new challenges for her team as well as many new opportunities for local part-time representatives. Julie excels as both the leader of the company and a mentor to those on her staff who have entrepreneurial dreams of their own—showing them it’s possible to build a successful business by relying on passion, the ability to lead others and providing a much-needed service.

Seal is also active in the community. She dedicates her time, services, and fundraising expertise to organizations such as Make a Wish Foundation of San Diego, UCSD Moores Cancer Center, National Brain Tumor Foundation, and The Rescue House.

Julie Seal is an inspiring, risk-taking entrepreneur,” says Kathryn Cloward, founder/CEO of Kandon Unlimited, Inc. and Seal’s nominator. “She has developed Mirus Promotions into a successful company through focusing on top-quality customer service for her clients, attention to detail in all aspects of her business, and investing time and energy into her expanding team. Julie is a positive role model who’s proven that believing in possibilities creates opportunities.”

More than 140 business professionals worldwide chose the Stevie Award finalists during preliminary judging. More than 90 members of the five final judging committees will determine the Gold, Silver and Bronze Stevie Award placements from among the finalists during final judging.

“I’m honored to be a finalist for this prestigious international award,” says Seal. “It’s empowering to be recognized among such a tremendous group of female businesswomen. While an individual award, I feel I share this with all courageous female entrepreneurs and those who work for me, as their loyalty and work ethic contribute to my success.”

10 things black entrepreneurs can learn from Don Lemon’s Mistakes

This picture says it all "Disconnected" Unfortunately, Don Lemon was roasted on Twitter once again last night. He opened up a CNN newscast with two large cards in front of him; one with me Confederate flag the other with a sign that spelled "Nigger." He asked if each one was offensive. He was trying to create shock value, based on a podcast that President Obama had done where he said the word "Nigger' and the current controversy over the Confederate flag and what it means. Truth be told, the two are not synonymous in this instance. [...]
