Published on

Olympia, WA, June 23, 2013 –(PR.com)– Barbara C. Phillips, ARNP was inducted as Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) on Thursday, June 20, 2013 during the AANP national conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ms. Phillips will continue the tradition of contributing to the mission of the AANP and promoting the role of the nurse practitioner. As the founder of NPBusiness she recognizes the critical importance of business education for nurse practitioners (NP) and the NP profession. Her company provides education, resources and support to entrepreneurial and employed NPs alike. She believes understanding the “Business of Healthcare” is critical to the future of nurse practitioners and the NP profession.

Recognized as a leader, innovator, business expert, social media guru and cutting edge online educator, she received the 2012 Washington State AANP Award for Excellence. Ms. Phillips speaks and consults nationally, internationally and is a published author.

A graduate of the University of Washington and Oregon Health Science University, she owns and operates Beachwater Health Associates in Olympia, WA, providing innovative, integrative and individualized pain management services.

The FAANP program was established in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through clinical practice, research, education, or policy. Priority initiatives of AANP are the development of leadership and mentorship programs for nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students. Fellows of the AANP are visionaries committed to the global advancement of nursing through the development of imaginative and creative future nurse practitioner leaders, and as such, hold an annual think tank to strategize about the future of nurse practitioners and health care outside the confines of traditional thinking. A limited number of nurse practitioners are selected for this highly coveted distinction each year.

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners is the largest, full-service national professional organization for nurse practitioners of all specialties. With more than 45,000 individual members and 200 group members, AANP represents the interests of approximately 167,000 nurse practitioners around the country. AANP continually advocates for the active role of nurse practitioners as providers of high-quality, cost-effective, personalized, patient-centered health care.

Several years ago, I was wondering the halls at a music industry event. I walked past a bunch of empty rooms and was stunned to see an industry legend in one of the rooms by herself accessing the room. Sylvia Rhone was about to leave and I had never met her and here was my chance to introduce myself. I introduced myself then told her about my (then) new business (Radio Facts) and how I wanted to grow. She listened intently as I went on and one and then said something to me that I will never forget. [...]
